Today we find many social trends out in the streets… It’s easy to witness extremely different people and colors either in clothing, shoes, or hair style. The same applies if you sit in a cafe, you can see the lexical diversity and the political and religious ideologies everywhere. That is what makes us unique and wonderfully complex individuals. But as Christians are we firm in our attitudes and beliefs, following the voice of the Father and the mandates given to us or we are allowing society to exercise its influence upon us?
The dictionary of the Spanish Royal Academy defines the word influence as the ability to exercise power (in any form) upon someone, a person, group or a particular event. This means that everyone at some point of his/her life has the power to coerce others to perform certain acts, or to assume a desired posture against certain situation. In a church this skill is very important since it might help to take others to reach better things in their lives. If we are not able to influence others then we will be influenced by wrong tendencies of society and this is not what God wants for us.
Our job as members of the body of Christ is to be a positive influence to others, showing them the opportunity to be better each day with the blessing of God. First we need to put into practice the knowledge acquired in the church, and obey the authority of the Father given to our pastors. Then we may try to become a model for others to follow, even more if we are needed or useful. After investing quality time with each person individually, then you can invite them to have an intimate and growing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Even you want it or not you are being an influence to someone, so define what you want to reproduce from you into them; be consistent at all times and align what you say with what you do; become a whole person in all aspects and let this be what moves others to want to be like you.
